Everytime this list drops it causes a lot debates on social media platforms since it was established in 2014. Ofcourse fans take no jokes when they feel like their favourite rappers got robed, and got left out of the list or when they feel like they should have beenon the list.
Just a young recap from the past four years, in 2014 KO was crowned the hottest MC, but the likes of Cassper Nyovest couldn’t let the Skhanda god enjoy his victory in peace, as Tsibib felt like KO wasn’t the right man for the No:1 spot and said that he only won ‘cause Vigi was one of the panelists, that time Vigi was on KO’s camp Cash Time Life. That year the top 3 was KO, Cassper, and AKA on the 3rd spot. In 2015 the Top 3 was the same acts as 2014 but this time they swapped spots as KO dropped to number 3, AKA on Number 2, and finally Cass got the number one spot. In 2016 things changed as there were new kids on the block Nasty C and Emtee and the top 3 Changed a little bit. But Cassper was not shaken as he was again crowned as the hottest MC for the second time in the row, The success of Emtee’s debut album Avery, with his like Roll up, Roll up Re-Up, pearl thusi, winning and Ngeke were good enought to earn him the second spot, and Nasty C bowed on the third spot, AKA got kicked out of the Top 3 as he was sitting on the 5th spot and kwesta was on the top 5 for the first time as he held the 4th spot. In 2017 Kwesta was Crowned the hottest MC because of the success of his double disc album Dakar 2, Cassper No:2 and AKA on the third Spot.
2018 Hottest MC List:
Kwesta is the hottest MC of 2018, with an aid of the success of his 2016 album DAKAR II which is now certified 7x platinum (210 000 albums sold). Also became the highest selling album by an SA hip hop act. Kwesta had quite a good year both in business and music, late last year he scored a deal with the energy drink company “Score” where he also premiered his platinum selling single Spirit on Score’s website. The man also had his signature shoes with Urban art and recently got a deal with a Cellular network “Telkom”, and closed off the year with a bang when he released one of the biggest records of the year “Vur Vai”. Kwesta also delivered some dope verses as guest artist this year, on records like Skebedep Remix, ziwa murtu, Macala, and Big star’s Sgubhu to mention a few. Even though kwesta had a good year he feels like AKA was supposed to be number 1 like a lot of people guessed.
Nasty C was one of the hard working hip hop acts this year, and it payed off as he secured the 2nd spot on the list. Nasty is currently on his prime this year he was touring the whole year also while working on his album which was well recieved by fans. He is also the most streamed SA rapper on spotify. Nasty C started touring around African countries like Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya to mention a few. He then took his tour to few European countries, also toured in the United States of America, and was going around the USA doing radio interviews and shot the video for King Ft. Asap Ferg in New York, which is arguably biggest SA hip hop songs of 2018, and most definately the biggest song of his career. This was really the biggest year of his career as his tour The Ivyson tour was a major success. Ivyson tour had sold out shows both in Durban and JHB and about to close off with Cape Town. This is why Cassper nyovest felt like Nasty really deserved the No:1 spot.
AKA fans been hungry for his album since 2015, and this year June he dropped his Third studio album Touch My blood which went gold in just 7 days. That just one of his archievements this year that earned him the third spot on the list. The Super Mega indeed had a fruitful year. He became the first South African artist to have his own flavour with an alcohol brand (Cruz Watermelon), because of high demand Cruz Watermelon went from being a limited edition to luxury edition, which means it is now the permanent flavor, and he also had done TV cormecials with Cruz. His deal with Reebok classic been looking good also, he even done an advert song for the brand the song is called Practise. He also scored a deal with a gambling company “Betaways”. His latest album Touch My Blood went platinum in just four months and his single Fela in versace has been the biggest SA Hip Hop song ever since it was released, it been topping radio charts, iTunes and Apple music, the song been getting a lot of attention across the continent especially in Nigeria as its features Kiddominant who is a singer and record producer from Nigeria. Last year’s number 2 dropped to the 4th spot, this year was not the busy year for Cassper Nyovest but he still managed to book a spot in the top 5. Early this year he released K’sazob lit which seems to be his biggest song this year, even though the song recieved a lot of criticism from fans saying he borrowed his flow from Takeoff who is 1/3 of Atlanta’s rap group Migos. It wasn’t all hate it also recieved a lot of love as it debuted on No:1 on iTunes and has over 2 million views on youtube. His endorsment deal with Ciroc is doing good for him, as he recently went overseas to take photos for Ciroc & Moschino campaign. He was also featured on few song that did really good this year, songs like Monate mpolaye, naah meaan, and resolved his differences with KO and the made a song called Waya Waya.

His yellow tour, best Rap album on SAMAs, and best newcomer award on SAHH awards, maneged to book Shane Eagle the 6th spot on the list.
Anatii been one of the hard working people in the industry since 2015, it is really suprising that it’s the first time he is on this list. The success of his collab album with AKA and his solo album “Iyeza” which is arguably the best project out. Anatii is also Courvoisier ambassador.
Riky Rick been on the list since 2014, but this year he was quiet whole year he only dropped one song “I can’t belive it”. Anyway he’s number 8 this year.
Moozlie on number 9
Naida Nakai on No:10.
This year’s list might be the worst list ever, what suprising is that people like Riky Rick, Moozlie, Naida are are on the list but there are people who did way better than them this year who are not on the list. A-Reece is one of the people who should have been on the top 5, he dropped 3 solid projects this year and a couple features. Kid X dropped arguably one of the best albums this year and his 2 singles he dropped this year are one of the biggest hip hop songs released this years, Mtan’ omuntu is still making waves on SA radio stations and its been in the top 10 for a long time on SA iTunes hip hop charts.
